My Calisthenics Skill List — A Ten-Year Vision
My Calisthenics Skill List: A Ten-Year Vision
This morning, I was sitting around, scrolling, and thinking about how long it's been since I last dove into calisthenics. Years ago, I used to spend hours on Reddit, especially in the r/bodyweightfitness and r/calisthenics communities. I even followed the classic "Recommended Routine" that everyone seemed to talk about — the one made by that Turkish guy whose name I can't even remember now.
But lately, the interest has come back. Maybe it's because I've been watching more people train on rings, or maybe I just miss the feeling of real, functional strength — the kind that looks and feels beautiful at the same time.
I realized I wanted to set myself a long-term goal: not just to get fit, but to move well and look cool doing it. So I started putting together a little list — a kind of ten-year calisthenics vision board — of moves I'd love to be able to check off one by one.
Here's what I came up with:
| Level | Skill | Description |
|---|---|---|
| ⭐ Foundation | Ring support hold → RTO hold | A clean, static control pose. Holding perfect stillness on two moving rings is harder than it looks. |
| ⭐ | L-sit on rings | Straight legs, full-body tension, and calm expression — a gymnastic classic that shows off real core strength. |
| ⭐ | Skin the cat | A controlled rotation through the shoulders — looks dramatic and builds great mobility. |
| ⭐⭐ | Back lever (tuck → straddle → full) | You start to look like a superhero suspended in midair. Demands immense posterior chain and shoulder stability. |
| ⭐⭐ | Handstand (wall → freestanding → press) | The ultimate expression of control and balance — something universally admired. |
| ⭐⭐ | Ring dips → muscle-up | The "rite of passage" in calisthenics — a combination of strength, technique, and explosiveness. |
| ⭐⭐⭐ | Front lever | A true test of body control and core strength. Looks impossible until you can do it. |
| ⭐⭐⭐ | Human flag | One of the most iconic feats in bodyweight training — pure showmanship. |
